The Collaboration

Born at Google X.
Built with Arc'teryx.

Skip began inside X, the Moonshot Factory, with a simple question: how can wearable robotics feel as natural as your favorite mountain gear? Partnering with Arc'teryx in North Vancouver, we integrated ultralight carbon load paths directly into the Gamma softshell pant.

“I carried a 42 lb camera and rope kit up the Chief without the usual late-day quad cramp.”

Questions

Before you hit the trail.

How does MO/GO attach to the Arc'teryx Gamma pants?+

Two lightweight prepreg carbon-fiber cradles slide into concealed internal tunnels inside the tailored Arc'teryx Gamma EX pant. The external motorized knee joint snaps onto low-profile magnetic-mechanical ports in under 15 seconds per leg.

What happens if the battery runs out mid-hike?+

MO/GO uses a backdrivable quasi-direct-drive planetary transmission. If the battery depletes or you switch the module off, the joint free-wheels with virtually zero mechanical resistance (< 0.08 Nm), or you can unclip the 390g actuators and stow them in your pack.

Does MO/GO protect my knees on steep downhill descents?+

Yes. Downhill Descent Shield mode uses computer-controlled eccentric damping to absorb up to 30 lbs of perceived impact per stride, protecting patellar tendons and meniscus cartilage on steep switchbacks while trickling up to 12% energy back into the battery.

Can I wash the pants and hike in heavy rain or snow?+

Yes. The motorized knee modules and Climber Battery Packs are sealed to IP65/IP67 standards against mud, sleet, and stream crossings down to -20°C. Once the external modules and internal carbon cradles are unclipped, the Gamma EX pants are 100% machine washable.
